Simu Liu admits filming her upcoming Barbie movie feels like ‘going out with friends’

Simu Liuwho will appear in the upcoming romantic comedy Barbie doll, described the special environment on set. Greta Gerwig directed and co-wrote the comedy, which is the first live-action version of the fashion doll brand after a string of computer-animated, straight-to-DVD adaptations.

Development on the Barbie movie began in 2014 and has since gone through a variety of capable directors, writers, and performers, with the project even moving from Sony to Warner Bros. Principal photography, however, finally began in March 2022, with the release of the first picture of Robbie as Barbie, and the film is now set to be released on July 21, 2023. The Barbie lineup also includes Simu Liu, Rhea Perlman, Ncuti Gatwa, Emma Mackey, Kate McKinnon, Michael Cera, Issa Rae, Hari Nef, and Will Ferrell, in addition to Robbie and Gosling.

While it’s unclear what roles the performers will play, it has recently been reported that the film will feature several versions of the two popular toys. Liu has now revealed more details about the atmosphere on the Barbie set, and it seems pretty colorful. Simu in an interview with Weekly entertainment, said, “The aesthetic of the film is very vibrant and full of life. Imagine you watch that set every day with a group of friends, like ‘Great, listen to the music!’ We’re dancing, and then you come out of a 12-hour day, and you’re like, ‘Did I really go to work today? Or am I just hanging out with my friends?’

Based on By Liu Description, Barbie is an incredibly bright and charming film that seems to have all the artistic characteristics of a musical without actually being one. It also confirms Liu’s previous claim that Barbie will incorporate wild dancing moments.
